Stranger Thing Stage Play: Stranger Things stage play in London’s West End, Netflix announces details

Netflix said on Wednesday that a new “Stranger Things” stage adaptation will arrive in London’s West End later this year. The live stage debut of the first episode of the well-known science fiction series “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” will take place at the Phoenix Theatre.

The play takes place more than 20 years before the opening scene of the performance, in the made-up town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the year 1959. Several of the show’s important figures, including the town’s police chief Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers’ lover Bob Newby, will be included, according to a press statement from Netflix.

The play, which will be directed by Stephen Daldry and co-directed by Justin Martin with co-direction from the original story of Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Kate Trefry. Sonia Friedman Productions will produce it. The theatrical adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” was also written by Thorne.

One of the most well-liked programs on the streaming service since its launch in 2016 is the “Stranger Things” series. With 1.35 billion hours watched, its fourth season leads Netflix’s Most Popular English TV list.

Netflix stated in its most recent shareholder letter that more new seasons and sequels were viewed by customers in 2022 than in any other year. With a 7.66 million paid subscriber increase in the fourth quarter, Netflix well exceeded subscriber forecasts.

The performance is one of a rising number of live events motivated by Netflix movies and television series, including the multi-city immersive “Stranger Things: The Experience.” Previous occasions have featured “Bridgerton”-themed balls and a live escape room based on “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”

With a live stand-up special starring Chris Rock scheduled on March 4 in which he will dissect Will Smith’s Oscar slap, Netflix has also been gaining popularity in the comedy sector.
